How to Be Your Own Valentine

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Okay, so you are not in a relationship at the moment. That doesn't mean you can't still enjoy instead of dread St Valentines Day. You can still have some fun. Besides, how often do you really treat yourself? This is your chance. Valentine’s Day is for showing our love. How about showing yourself some?

Make some preparations before hand by shopping for all the things that are going to make your evening with yourself amazing.
Pop out for a coffee, a quick drink or some take away and you might be surprised, and feel better about yourself, when you see just how many other people there are around who are not in relationships.

Back home begin with a glass of wine while soaking in a candle lit scented bubble bath.

Relax And Enjoy
Relax And Enjoy
Surround yourself with pink girly things, cushions, candles, flowers etc. Anyhting that reminds you of Valentine's Day but is not romantic will do splendidly.

Be comfortable
Be comfortable
Change into your soft fleecy pink PJs, or whatever else you feel most comfortable in.

Buy flowers
Buy flowers
Don't wait around for someone to buy you flowers - buy your own.

Buy chocolates
Buy chocolates
Don't hold your breath waiting for someone to buy you a box of chocolates - buy your own.
Take care of you - don't wait for someone else to do it.

If you feel like doing more for yourself, you could try a massage, a hair do, or just treat yourself to some new shoes. If you are in the mood for some company invite some single friends around - who knows, someone might click with someone. You could also make it a single girls night - but avoid lamenting over guys. If you decide to watch movies, avoid romantic movies and stick with comedy.

Avoid wine, just stick to roses and romantic type boxes of chocolate unless you want to end up drunk and feeling sorry for yourself!
It is highly advised that you do NOT tell all your friends about your special 'self-valentine' day. It might make you look a little bit strange

Create a Home Spa Experience Without Spending a Dime

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Here are some home spa tips that will make you look and feel like a million bucks. Squeeze a few more minutes into your daily routine for them, and become happier and fantastically refreshed!

Slow down. Take in the experience of an everyday activity that you usually fly through, such as a bath or shower, listening to a favorite song, or even getting dressed in a favorite outfit. Remember why each thing is special to you.
Use an essential oil compress to refresh and energize.
Shower with a gentle, scented gel and a body scrubber. There are many kinds of scrubbers - choose one that exfolites and stimulates your circulation without making you feel like you've just been rubbed by a cheese grater.
Soak in a bath. Add 5 to 10 drops of an essential oil to bath salts.
Be nice to yourself. These are your precious rejuvenating moments. Take your time.
Be gentle when washing your body or face. Scrubbing too hard or too vigorously can advance signs of aging in the skin.
Pamper your hair, which takes a beating both indoors and outdoors , all day long. Use a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment and spend the wait time reading a book in the tub!
Replenish lost moisture to your skin and hair by taking two tablespoons of organic flaxseed oil twice a day. You'll get rid of dry skin and combat wrinkles..
Treat your fabulous face like royalty. The skin on your face is thinner and more fragile than the rest of your body. Avoid extremely hot water, harsh soaps or any drying cleansers. Wash with gentle cleansers that don't dry out your skin, and always rub gently as you wash. Moisturize.
Tone and plump the skin on your face by putting an ice cube into a plastic bag, and rubbing it gently all over your face for a couple of minutes.
Rejuvenate from the inside as well.
Drink enough water so that you do not feel thirsty, particularly when you are hot or are exercising. (Any 'registered' dietitian will tell you that it is an urban myth that you *must* consume 8 to 10 glasses of water a day if you do not need it.)
Eat lots of whole foods, green vegetables, fresh fruits, grains, nuts and lean protein to reduce inflammation, replenish moisture and bring back a youthful glow.
Take 3 full, deep breaths from your abdomen (keep your shoulders still) to complete your simple happy essential home spa experience.
12. Make yourself a foot bath with a plastic bucket or any plastic bin that fits your feet comfortably with the water just above your ankles. Add two tablespoons of epson salts to the water. The water should be hot but, not too hot. Use from the tap and check as you fill with the back of your hand.
Sit in a comfortable chair with a magazine you have been meaning to read.
Find some New Age music "Ray Lynch is a good" I like the Album "Deep Breakfast" Relax and enjoy the moment. Headphones can shut out any outside noises and help create "your own space".
Pleasant scents from incense or candles can add to the relaxing effect.
The most important part is to slow down and enjoy the time. Evenings before bed are best as the relaxation carries over to your sleep time.

The benefits and joy you experience during your at home spa day will be more colored by your desire and your intentions than any fancy, expensive products you can buy. Be mindful, set your intentions and gradually transition in to or out of your work day.

Cook Foods That Go Together

Sunday, January 25, 2009

When entertaining, there are many factors to consider. For instance, do you have enough room for entertaining? What is the desired attire? In addition to these, you also need to adequately plan you meal. You will want to serve foods that are not only tasty but also go well with each other.

Choose complementary colors. It’s appealing to most people to see a nice color scheme, and it’s no different when viewing food. Granted, color of food is not often the main topic of conversation, but psychologically it does have an effect. When serving a bland color of meat, try enhancing its color by garnishing it with tomato or pepper relish. Topping vegetables such as carrots and mashed potatoes with a bit of butter also adds appealing color.
Try to serve a variety of sizes, shapes and proportions. Offering variety in form will visually interest the guests.
Use a variety of textures in food. This not only appeals to the eye but also to the taste buds. When serving something soft and smooth such as soups, add accent to the taste with something crunchy by serving a crisp salad or crusty hard rolls with it.

Try and cook a homogeneous meal and the rest will follow. If you are cooking Indian then cook only Indian; don't serve pasta along with chicken curry or moussaka with noodles.
If one food item is very bland, try to set it off by making another a little spicy.

Don't try and experiment without first reading up a few books or checking the Internet about what goes with what or which wine to serve with which meat.

Divorce & Restoring Your Credit

Saturday, January 24, 2009

Your lifestyle will almost certainly change when one household becomes two. You'll need a new budget -- and a realistic look at what you can afford for the next few years.

You survived the divorce. Now comes the hard part: getting your new single life on track, especially when it comes to money.

In many cases, the ex-wife has a larger amount of post-divorce financial work to do.

True, some women make more money than their husbands, but they are generally exceptions. And true, the ex-husband usually contributes to two households, his new single one as well as the one maintained by his ex-wife, who typically is the custodial parent of their children.

Your 5-minute guide to sudden singlehood

But the harsh reality of divorce is that the lower wage earner usually suffers the most financially. And that lower wage earner usually is the woman, who may have left the work force, at least temporarily, to care for children.

Even then, however, it's possible to get your post-divorce finances in order and ultimately prosper. The following tips and strategies should help. And much of the advice applies regardless of gender.
Get involved
It's the 21st century, but family finances aren't equal for many reasons.

Carol Arnott, a divorce financial analyst with Greenville Financial Group in Greenville, Del., cites a recent survey of married couples that found the men more likely to be in charge of investments, insurance and retirement planning. The women, meanwhile, focused on day-to-day budgeting and bill paying.

Talk back: How has divorce affected your finances?

In short, the men were more strategic when it came to money and more comfortable making decisions regarding their financial futures. So it's no surprise that most of Arnott's clients are women. And she's not shy about encouraging them to get involved with their finances and seek professional help "prior to filing or as soon as they're served with papers."

The first step in mastering your money is understanding it. To do that, you need to look completely and carefully at where you stand.
