Help Others by Donating Goods

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Want to get involved with community outreach by connecting with non-profit organizations? Donating previously owned clothes, toys, furniture, appliances, even cars can be a big commitment of time and effort. The following steps will help you to understand and work with successful systems of donation and distribution of needed articles. These steps are for those who want to start their own donation and distribution organization and work with other organizations as well.

Find donation organizations such as "Helping Needy Families." These may be found online, through churches, community centers, etc. Many of them will have a welcome or information letter available.
Make sure they give a contact name. For example: "Hello, My name is Tami." Having an actual contact name is important for specific and consistent contact.
Find out if they are willing to help other groups like themselves, (be an affiliate).
Research the needs, both of their group and yours. For example: A mission called "Heavens Manna for the needy" is a used clothing, toys, furniture, appliances, food, etc., donation and distribution center.
Look for ways to help get involved with them. How can you receive free donations from companies in order to get started?
Get the details. Once a relationship is established, get all the relevant details: Website address, contact name, phone, physical address, purpose, supporting information, etc.
Verify the information given. Because of security concerns and possible fake organizations, be sure to validate the information for your own safety.
Enjoy working with the authentic and like-minded organization to help those in the community who are in need!

There may be an organization already in existence in your area. Makes sure to research and find anyone you can work with. They may have done some of the hard work already.

There are people and organizations that take advantage of non-profit and community outreach groups. Be sure to watch for information that does seem authentic when establishing a relationship.

Patience and persistence. There may be obstacles to be overcome.
A website for your new organization is very helpful for connecting to others.
Compassion for those who will ultimately benefit from your actions.
