Cook Foods That Go Together

Sunday, January 25, 2009

When entertaining, there are many factors to consider. For instance, do you have enough room for entertaining? What is the desired attire? In addition to these, you also need to adequately plan you meal. You will want to serve foods that are not only tasty but also go well with each other.

Choose complementary colors. It’s appealing to most people to see a nice color scheme, and it’s no different when viewing food. Granted, color of food is not often the main topic of conversation, but psychologically it does have an effect. When serving a bland color of meat, try enhancing its color by garnishing it with tomato or pepper relish. Topping vegetables such as carrots and mashed potatoes with a bit of butter also adds appealing color.
Try to serve a variety of sizes, shapes and proportions. Offering variety in form will visually interest the guests.
Use a variety of textures in food. This not only appeals to the eye but also to the taste buds. When serving something soft and smooth such as soups, add accent to the taste with something crunchy by serving a crisp salad or crusty hard rolls with it.

Try and cook a homogeneous meal and the rest will follow. If you are cooking Indian then cook only Indian; don't serve pasta along with chicken curry or moussaka with noodles.
If one food item is very bland, try to set it off by making another a little spicy.

Don't try and experiment without first reading up a few books or checking the Internet about what goes with what or which wine to serve with which meat.
