Have a Fun New Year's Eve

Do you want to make the most out of your New Year's but don't know where to start?

Arrange a get-together with some friends and family or go to someone else's. If you are hosting it, provide refreshments including snacks and drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Get some good music that you know everyone will enjoy. It can be a small get-together or a large one.Watch the ball drop in Times Square. You can go there the moment it happens or watch it live on television. Either way, this is a fun family tradition that has been carried on for many years.Treat yourself to something you haven't had for a while. It could be a spa day, or an extra slice of cake, or a short vacation. It should be something pleasurable that you only get to do once in a blue moon.

Make New Years Resolutions. Everybody loves New Years Resolutions! These are small promises to yourself that you make at the beginning of the year, usually to improve yourself. At midnight, say, "I love you," to who you're with. This is a great, fun way to start the year.Go on a road trip. Bring your family. Go somewhere you will all enjoy. Relax. You don't HAVE to do anything for New Years. You can just sit back, relax, and enjoy it while it lasts.

If you host a get-together, temporarily lock up all of your pets. Somebody may be allergic. Do not serve alcoholic drinks at a get-together if minors will be attending.

Form a Plan

We all have problems in life we'd like to overcome. Sometimes we can go straight to the solution with little thought beforehand, other times a plan is the better option, especially if the goal is complex and involves many steps. If you set out a plan, then the work of making it happen becomes clear, and even if you don't make the progress you want, you'll at least know how far you've progressed. Whatever happens, you had your own plan and even if it all goes wrong, you'll learn from it for next time.

Write down the problems that you want to solve. Sometimes this is the most difficult step. Is something happening that's wasting your time in life? Are you having trouble in dealing with the opposite sex? Maybe you would just like to do better in something and feel you can form a plan to make it better.Use brainstorming techniques to write down everything — everything — about your problem. A crucial step, it is important to never self-censor here. You can always cut things later. Right now it is important to get everything down.

One thing will lead to another, things you have not thought of will appear, and you will start to form an idea of the steps it will take to realize your goal and solve your problem. You may even come upon the solution while brainstorming. There are many different kinds of brainstorming techniques, some are here: Mind Maps, Brainstorming,Free writing. Determine what's different about your current situation from where you want to be. In other words, start thinking about your goals and how you want to achieve them. Your goals will be the solutions to your problem your plan will achieve.

Write down your goals for each part of the task. Under goals, write what you need to do to accomplish that goal.Put the goals you need to do into groups or 'chunks', and put those in the proper order.Set a time limit for your plan by choosing a realistic date for when you want to achieve a given goal. Make sure to think about how 'big' your goal is, and the amount of change that will have to happen. Write your plan on one sheet of paper, or print it out that way. Include a time scale on the paper to show when each chunk of work should happen, and when you want to check progress you've made. Print or write smaller parts of a larger plan.

Accomplish Your New Year's Resolutions

We are rapidly becoming a society that cannot resolve to do anything. 92% will fail to accomplish their 2007 goals. As of Dec 2005 only 47% even set New Year goals, down from 88% in 2001. Yet people who set goals are 10 times more likely to achieve them. It seems that we have no resolve. Here is how to help overcome this problem.

Set goals:
Take a bit to think about what you need to improve on in your life. It can be physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally. Anything you can think of. List your goals in order of importance. Make them realistic. Be realistic with your targets, but don't make them too easy, either. Instead of having one massive target, consider having multiple smaller targets. But also think positive and NEVER negative about what you are doing. Choose to make changes at any time of the year. Don't put all the pressure on yourself to make changes at the arbitrary start date of January 1st. But it shouldn't be long after.

Develop a time-activated plan under each goal. For the top 3 goals you listed, make a detailed, achievable plan. For example, for losing weight, ask yourself how you will do that. Will you stop eating carbs? Cut calories? Go to the gym 3 times a week for 20 minutes at a time? Create accountability: Set up dates for evaluation with a mentor. This helps you stay focused and evaluates methods for improvement. It's even better if you find someone who has the same resolution.Remind yourself about it. For every day on your calender or schedule, write down what you will do for that day, what time you will do it, and don't forget to actually do it! No matter how busy you are. They're called challenging for a reason!

Focus on the process rather than the end goal. Take each step one at a time and be happy with your progress. The only way you'll get to where you want to go is to complete every small step along the way.Reward yourself for a job well done: determine ahead of time what rewards will be at small milestones of accomplishment. Have frequent small rewards and the "GRAND PRIZE" for completion. When the new year begins and you do or you don't have a resolution don't worry because you can make a resolution right away and make today the beginning of a new year for the rest of your life.

Dress for New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is a big enough night without the added stress of worrying about choosing the perfect dress. Here's a simple guide to help.

List some stores you want to go in, and your shopping budget. Write down your thoughts about hemlines and necklines. Do you want a short prom style dress, or a long evening gown? It's also a good idea to think about colors which suit you. For New Years Eve, its usually better to pick "party colors" when buying a dress, such as gold, silver, purple, maroon, navy and black. Set some time aside for shopping. A good time to buy your dress is after Christmas, as shops are usually quiet then. It's best to avoid the first two days straight after Christmas though as stores are crowded because of the sales. December 28th or 29th are good days to go.
Choose a dress which will suit whatever event your going to. If your going to a party which will have fireworks, buy a shrug or stylish shawl to go over what you're wearing for when you go outside. If you know you'll be staying inside, then you probably won't need one.

If the entire party is going to be hosted outdoors, a dress past the knee with cap sleeves may be an appropriate choice. Dress accordingly.
Make sure the dresses fabric is suitable. Satin and cotton are good choices, however linen or suede may be less appropriate as they are more summer-like materials.Think about decoration. Bows, sequins, embroidery, and beads all look pretty on dresses, however certain types of decoration suit certain dresses. Embroidery is more suited to classical evening gowns, whereas bows can look better on prom dresses

Make sure your dress isn't too long or tight to dance in, if you're going to be dancing. Choose a matching or similar color to your dress for your handbag or clutch bag. Keep jewelery simple. It shouldn't outshine your dress, just accessorise it. Stick to silver or gold, and wear a maximum of three pieces. Have fun!
