Feel Happy when Christmas Is Over

Monday, December 28, 2009

The Christmas tree is due to be taken down, the presents have been opened and the awful month of January is looming. Fear not!

Spend some time appreciating what you have been given for Christmas, if you have been given books, read them; DVDs, watch them etc. Enjoy yourself and relax. Participate in a favorite sport or exercise program. A good walk will clear the brain while burning off some of those holiday calories. Touch football with friends might be another option.Plan something a festive activity to celebrate the New Year. If you enjoy a night out, make reservations to celebrate the New Year with good friends, if you prefer the comforts of home, plan an evening of good food and television. Or plan a festive home party. Be sure to offer non-alcoholic drinks and make arrangements for a designated driver.

Take some time to reflect on the past year, if it was a good year, make a memorable scrapbook of what you enjoyed about it. If not, forget it, make a list of (realistic) resolutions and look to the future. If you are a child/teenager, you probably will have been given some money for Christmas. Take yourself out to the shops and indulge in some new clothes or CDs for the new year. Try to make it positive music. When the decorations have gone, don't leave the house bare. Buy some pretty winter flowers or a wall hanging in warm, comforting colours. Look into a new hobby to occupy your time. Think outside the box, you could try cooking, gardening, journal-keeping or painting. If you're not the creative type, perhaps a sport is more your thing. Keep happy by maintaining a positive attitude.

Invest in things which make you feel comfortable and happy, your favorite flowers, music or films. Make a special effort with your appearance. Exercise or participate in sporting activities. See a therapist, if needed, to battle the winter blahs.Keep in mind that this is not the last Christmas there will ever be. Keep looking forward to the next year if this helps. You can also remember the other upcoming holidays, such as New Year's Day.
