Maybe your parent(s) have been divorced and are now planning on marrying different people, this can add a lot of stress to your life, here are some simple ways to make this transition easier on everyone.
1. Be willing to share.
2. Understand that they are now part of your family and not an appendix to it.
If there is something that is really bothering you about a step parent then don't be afraid to talk to a counselor or psychologist, most schools have one as a member of the staff so you parents will never have to know if you don't want them to. If you do not feel comfortable calling your step parent "mom" or "dad", use his or her first name or establish a nickname but do not use "hey you" or anything else like that when you want their attention.
Talk with your parent and step parents, establish guidelines and rules, then make sure everyone sticks to them. Don't bottle up things they do that bother you and let them all out at once confront the problems as they arise. Make sure your parent knows how you feel about your step parent, in a serious situation it maybe important.
